Manufacturing value added (MVA) as a proportion of gross domestic product (GDP) is a ratio between MVA and GDP in the country. |
| Concepts |
Gross value added is calculated as difference between output of goods and services and intermediate consumption. The term «gross» indicates that indicator includes the value of fixed capital used in the production process. MVA is the key indicator of national accounts, describing the state and development of Kyrgyz industry over a certain period. It reflects the value of goods and services produced in manufacturing for final consumption, accumulation and exports. De-facto population is population actually present in the country at the time of registration, regardless of the place of residence Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is key indicator of national accounts, describing the state and development of the economy and trends in economic growth of the Kyrgyz Republic over a certain period. It reflects the value of goods and services produced in the country for final consumption, accumulation and export. GDP per capita measures the standard of living of population and determines contributions to international organizations. GDP production per capita is calculated in KG soms and US dollars (at the official rate of the National Bank). |
| Rationale and interpretation |
MVA is a well-recognized and widely used indicator by researchers and policy makers to assess the level of industrialization of a country. The share of MVA in GDP reflects the role of manufacturing in the economy and a country’s national development in general. MVA per capita is the basic indicator of a country’s level of industrialization adjusted for the size of the economy. One of the statistical uses of MVA per capita is classifying country groups according to the stage of industrial development. |
| Method of computation |
MVA proportion to GDP is calculated by dividing MVA by GDP of the whole country. MVA share с =GVAс/GDP*100 where, MVA share с – Manufacturing value added share in GDP; MVAс – manufacturing value added; GDP – gross domestic product. MVA per capita is the ratio of total gross manufacturing value added over a period of time to the de-facto population. MVAcPC=MVAc/P where, MVAcPC – manufacturing value added per capita; MVAc– manufacturing value added; P – de-facto population. |

Data on manufactured goods are collected and compiled according to the State Classification of Economic Activities (SCEA3/NACE2). GVA is calculated in accordance with the 2008 SNA standards. |
