Law of the Kyrgyz Republic No. 217 dated 29 December 2023 “On the Right of Access to Information”

The State guarantees the right of every person to seek, receive, store, use, and disseminate information held by an information holder, in accordance with the provisions of this Law.

The right of access to information is guaranteed through:

- the obligation of information holders to provide and disclose information;

- the designation by information holders of specific structural units or officials responsible for organizing access to the information they possess, in accordance with established procedures;

- maximum simplification of the procedure for submitting requests and obtaining information;

- access to open meetings of collegial bodies of public sector entities;

- the exercise of parliamentary, public, and governmental oversight over compliance with the right of access to information;

- liability for violations of legislation on access to information;

- and other measures aimed at the effective implementation of the right of access to information.
